Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it.  Make plans now while you still have {good} options.

Under a budget?  Check out my guest post “Valentine’s Day Gifts Under $20” over at The Stay At Home Money Manager this week!  (If you are trying to keep your New Year’s resolution of managing your money better, check out Mandy’s “31 Days to a Home Budget” series!)

Looking for some more gift ideas?  Here are a few to get you thinking:

One of a Kind

Jewelry is a popular gift on Valentine’s day.  Sure, you can get a cookie-cutter pair of diamond stud earrings or heart-shaped necklace and spend anywhere from $50 and up, or……you can get him or her something that is one-of-a-kind!  You already know I’m partial to Hardwear-Merry.  She has done some really cool pieces that are personalized for her customers.  For men, she has made some really cool leather valet’s for his dresser.  I am also loving Brazin’ Hussy—especially for Valentine’s Day.  Check out her designs and you’ll see lots of really cool pieces with hearts incorporated.  These are not your froo-froo hearts, mind you!

Take Her (or Him) Out!

Valentine’s Day is a great holiday to try a new restaurant or visit that familiar place where you had your first date.  Whatever the case, most restaurants offer really fun specials on Valentine’s Day.  Here in Nashville, a local favorite is Watanabe, which offers a very romantic setting, world cuisine entrees, as well as a sushi bar and epicurean drink offerings.  They always put something special on the menu for Valentine’s Day.  Go ahead and get dessert and spend a little extra time with your sweetheart.

And Stay Out!

Reserve a room for the evening.  After dinner, go out and catch a show or just head to the hotel and, um, provide your own entertainment.  Most hotels offer different packages that will make the room extra special for Valentine’s Day.  The Hilton in downtown Nashville offers a Romance package that includes a late check-out, breakfast in your room (or in the restaurant), and sparkling wine and strawberries in your room.  Also, the concierge can help by putting flowers in the room or any other special request you might have.

If you prefer to take a step back in time, the Union Station hotel in Nashville is a “splendidly restored 1900 railway station” that is now a boutique hotel.  They are offering the same type of Romance package as the Hilton, but you can also book a dinner at Prime 108, which is a fine dining restaurant located inside the hotel.  Prime 108 is offering an Amour Dinner on the 14th and 15th of February which features a 5 course meal (with your choice of 3 different entrees) for $85/person.  You can also enjoy the optional wine pairings at $45/person, hand-picked by their in-house Sommelier.  The food sounds delicious and if I wasn’t pregnant, I’d jump all over those wine pairings!

No matter what city you are in, make the most of the evening and check around to see what is being offered.  Most restaurants and hotels offer unique specials just for Valentine's Day.  They know you'll be going out, and they want you to choose their location as your destination.

I'll post Part Two next week--more ideas to make the occasion fun and memorable!
